Ratio Privata

This Privacy Policy explains how 7n4.cn ("we", "this site") collects, uses and protects information when you visit and use our MAC address lookup service. Last updated: 7 October 2026.

Information we collect

Lookup queries you submit. When you use the MAC address lookup, the address you enter is sent to our server to perform the query. We store lookup records (the MAC address, the matched vendor and a timestamp) for internal statistics. We do not publish full query history or query timestamps. Lookup records currently have no automatic deletion schedule and are retained until you request deletion or we implement a cleanup policy. Lookup records are stored separately from access logs; request URLs in logs may still contain submitted addresses.

Access logs. Our server records standard access information: IP address, timestamp, requested URL, browser and operating system type (User-Agent) and referring page (Referer). These logs are used for troubleshooting, abuse prevention and traffic statistics.

Cookies and local storage. When you choose a language from the language menu, this site uses a first-party functional cookie named lang_pref to remember that choice for one year; choosing "Auto (browser)" in the language menu deletes it. This cookie is used only for the interface language, not for cross-site tracking or advertising. If you sign in to the content management area, an additional session cookie maintains that login. We do not use cookies to track your activity on other websites.

We do not ask for and do not collect your name, phone number, postal address or payment details. The public features of this site require no registration.

Are MAC addresses personal data?

A MAC address is a hardware identifier for a network device and does not by itself contain a name or other identity information. However, under some legal frameworks, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation, a device identifier may be treated as personal data where it can be linked to a specific individual. Please note that MAC addresses you submit are recorded in the lookup history. If you believe a stored lookup record relates to your personal information, you may request its deletion using the contact details below.

How we use information

We use the information we collect only to provide and improve the MAC address and vendor (OUI) lookup service, to keep the site running reliably and securely, to compile aggregate traffic and query trends, and to comply with applicable legal obligations.

We do not sell, rent or trade your information. We do not share lookup records or access logs with third parties for marketing purposes.

Third-party services

Wireshark OUI database. Vendor data comes from the publicly available Wireshark manuf data file, which our server downloads automatically on a periodic basis. This is an outbound request made by our server and does not involve your information.

Cloudflare. This site uses Cloudflare for content delivery and security. Your requests pass through Cloudflare's servers, so Cloudflare processes your IP address and request metadata. Please see Cloudflare's privacy policy for details of its practices.

Advertising (planned). Google AdSense is not currently loaded on the public site. We are preparing to apply. If advertising is enabled, third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this and other websites. Google's advertising cookies enable it and its partners to serve ads based on those visits.

You can manage or opt out of personalised advertising through My Ad Center and learn about Google's processing at Google advertising technologies. Other participating vendors may offer their own opt-out mechanisms; AboutAds choices provides additional options.

Before enabling personalised ads for users in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, we will configure a Google-certified consent management platform. Where applicable, users will be able to accept or reject optional advertising purposes and revisit their choice. Browser cookie controls are also available. This notice does not mean that advertising cookies or a consent platform are already active.

Data retention

Access logs are rotated daily by the server software and normally retained for about 14 days before being compressed and deleted. Lookup history is stored in the server's database for internal query statistics and currently has no automatic deletion schedule. You may request deletion of specific records as described below. Application runtime logs rotate by size (50MB per file, keeping 2 historic files) and are used for troubleshooting.

Data security

The site is served entirely over HTTPS and sets standard security response headers. Server access is limited to the personnel who need it for operations. Please note that no method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's privacy

This site is a technical tool aimed at networking practitioners. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights

Depending on the laws that apply where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete information we hold that relates to you, or to object to certain processing. Please submit requests through our Contact Us page and we will respond within a reasonable period.

You can also clear or block this site's cookies at any time through your browser settings. Blocking cookies means preferences such as your language choice will not be remembered, but the lookup features will continue to work.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site indicates that you accept the updated policy.
